Discover this nature, culture and heritage-rich area on the eastern shore of giant Lake Vänern in West Sweden on a two-day package. It’s a great idea to come here with your friends or family, and an even better idea to buy this two-day package that combines the best the area has to offer.
Läckö Castle sits beside Lake Vänern in West Sweden. Inside and out, it is a baroque work of art from the 17th century; from its dazzling white walls to its ornately painted and furnished halls and rooms. Come for the exhibitions and concerts in summertime and make sure to bring the children as activities abound for them.
Kinnekulle viewing tower
Yes, you get panoramic views. And what views they are from the top of the Kinnekulle viewing tower that sits atop Kinnekulle mountain. On a clear day you can see for 80-90 kilometres over Lake Vänern, to the city of Karlstad and the entire peninsula of Värmland. Nearer to home, you get cracking views of Läcko Castle. The viewing tower is also a great place to start out on one of the walking trails here.
Hellekis Estate gardens
Carl Linnaeus, world famous Swedish scientist and botanist was bowled over by these gardens back in 1746 when he wrote about them. And he gives special mention to the two walnut trees here that together produce some 10,000 walnuts a year. There is a magnificent rose garden to breathe in and see, more than 300 perennials to admire, as well as rare and exotic trees such as Ginkgo Biloba. Don’t forget to visit the main plant nursery where you can buy some plants from the estate.
One for the whole family with permanent exhibitions on local history and heritage, as well as aquariums containing the forty species of fish that call Lake Vänern home.
The package includes:
